Young dance artists will discuss diverse choreographic choices and creative philosophies in choreography during the pandemic in a free webinar-forum entitled From Us to You: Checking In on the Dance Community, on Friday, March 18, 2022.

The event aims to bring together the dance field to impart ideas and tips, expand support networks, sharpen organizational practices and deepen the inquiry around the trajectory of dance-making amid the psychological impasse brought by the continuing global upheaval.

Hosted by the Arts and Culture Cluster of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, the sessions highlight the artistic practice as a core human need and investigates the significant role of advocacy, leadership, equity and mentorship within an ethos of community care.

The conversations are spearheaded by the dance majors from Benilde School of Design and Arts, who share how different artists deal with the pandemic-driven anxieties. They will impart coping strategies to complete a three-phased choreographic process, from gathering movement materials and developing it into dance phrases, to creating the final structure.

Emmer Evangelio and Andi Vida are set to discuss the uncertainties and challenges of dancers who were forced to transition from the physical stages to the digital landscape in the new normal.

Meanwhile, Stella Estriber will elaborate on the creation of movement vocabularies amid the restrictions posed by the challenging times.

Erika Arandez and Michaella Carreon are scheduled to delve on the ways to translate and evoke emotions on film as the new performance platform.

On the other hand, John Tarroza will talk about the ubiquity and limitations technology has posed on the artistic discipline.

Melanie Lourdes Dionisio, RGC, RPsy and Elmerando Mores, RGC, RPsy from the Benilde Well-Being Center will likewise join the session to share simple healing skills and self-care tips to foster the health and well-being of the dance practitioners.

From Us to You: Checking In on the Dance Community will be moderated by renowned artist and Benilde Dance Chairperson Nina Anonas, ACBE, whose professional portfolio includes roles with the Ballet Philippines, Manila Metropolis Ballet, Junge Ballett Compagnie and Ballett Frankfurt.

The talks are free and open to the public. It will be conducted online via Zoom on Friday, March 18, 2022, 5 p.m.
