Dagupan City, Pangasinan reached a whopping 53 degrees celsius, reaching the highest heat index figure so far since Virac, according to PAGASA, on Thursday.

The heat index tells what the temperature feels like to our bodies when relative humidity is combined with the air. It determines a person’s comfort rate in certain levels of temperature.

Dagupan City and four other locations went under the category ‘danger’ for reaching temperatures between 42 and 51 degrees celsius.

  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 53 degrees celsius
  • Virac (Synop), Catanduanes – 47 degrees celsius
  • CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 45 degrees celsius
  • Masbate City, Masbate – 42 degrees celsius
  • Sangley Point, Cavite – 42 degrees celsius

Dagpuan takes the spot for highest heat index record with 53 degrees celsius, surpassing Virac’s previous record of 46 degrees celsius, according to PAGASA, on Wednesday.

It is also worth noting that the state weather bureau released helpful information about the health index, and how to provide assistance for those who are suffering from heat-related illness.

According to PAGASA’s said infographics, here’s what to do if a person suffers from severe heat-related illness:

  1. Move the person in a shady area, let their legs elevated, and if they’re conscious, let them sip some water
  2. Remove clothing, apply cool water to the skin and provide ventilation
  3. Apply ice packs to the armpits, wrists, ankles, and groin
  4. Immediately bring them to the hospital

The infographics also included precautions like limiting your walks outside, avoiding various flavored drinks, wearing hats or bringing umbrellas wherever you go outside, rescheduling of heavy-duty activities when the sun isn’t so high up in the sky, and of course, always staying hydrated during these times.
